Wrenn Academy
Description – Burke Hunter Adams were appointed to help Wrenn Academy expand its facilities with two new teaching blocks across its London Road and Doddington Road sites in Wellingborough.
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) were used to deliver the project in a 12-month schedule, which allowed for accelerated construction, reduced disruption and greater certainty of programme outcomes.
Work was planned in phases at both live school sites. This helped keep operations safe and uninterrupted during the build. We offered an integrated service, acting as Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager, and Contract Administrator. This ensured strong control over costs, programmes, and contracts. It led to effective collaboration between design, off-site manufacturing, and on-site installation.
A key aspect of the project was managing delivery within an operational school environment. This required careful planning around the academic calendar and coordination across multiple stakeholders. We also supported the client in securing and managing funding through North Northamptonshire Council. This included preparing the funding agreement and the administration of interim drawdowns.
The scheme involved the installation of two new classroom buildings using MMC. As a result we were able to improve efficiency while maintaining high-quality outcomes. The new facilities increase teaching capacity and provide modern, flexible spaces for over 1,400 students. Close collaboration with the school’s Facilities Manager, the Creative Education Trust’s Director of Estates, and the main contractor ensured smooth delivery and effective stakeholder coordination throughout.
This project demonstrates the effective use of MMC to deliver education facilities across multiple operational sites within a constrained programme.
The project was successfully delivered by aligning costs, programmes, contract management, and funding governance. This approach ensured operational continuity and kept financial control intact.
